The University of New Caledonia UNC (Université de la Nouvelle-Calédonie) is a multidisciplinary university located in Nouméa.
It was created in 1987 under the name French University of the Pacific, in reference to the unique entity it then constituted with French Polynesia.
In 1999 the university became independent of French Polynesia and became the University of New Caledonia.
The University of New Caledonia (UNC) is a public scientific, cultural and professional institution under the supervision of the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. The university is a major driver for the development of New Caledonian youth and contributes to the broadening of knowledge through research and intellectual influence.
UNC hosts around 3000 local and international students with a staff of about 100 professors and researchers, and 100 administrative employees each year. The President of UNC is Gaël Lagadec, who succeeded Jean-Marc Boyer.
