Société d’Ornithologie de Polynésie Manu

The Society of Ornithology of Polynesia MANU (= bird in Polynesian) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization recognized as being of general interest. Tt was founded in July 1990 and has for statutory purposes:

  • The protection of birds of Polynesia and their habitats;
  • The contribution to the study of birds of Polynesia in their natural environment;
  • The dissemination and promotion to the public of any information relating to the protection and study of birds of Polynesia.

SOP MANU is the local representative of BirdLife International, a world federation of nature protection associations working for the conservation of birds, where it represents French Polynesia. Since its creation, it has maintained relations with NGOs and institutions that share its goals in the Pacific region and in the rest of the world.
