New European Agency: CINEA

CINEA is the new European Executive Agency for Climate, Infrastructure and Environment. It was established on the 1st of April 2021 and replaces the Innovation and Networks Executive Agency (INEA). This new agency has over 500 staff and has a budget of €52 billion.

It will support the European Green Deal and implement parts of EU programmes for transport, energy, climate action, environment and maritime fisheries and aquaculture.

The agency manages :

  • The “Transport” and “Energy” work programmes of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme;
  • Part of the Horizon Europe programme;
  • The implementation of the Innovation Fund;
  • The LIFE programme;
  • Part of the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF)
  • The  EU Renewable Energy Financing Mechanism
  • The Just Transition Mechanism for the regions most affected by the transition to climate neutrality.
