5th France-Oceania Summit

French Polynesia, New Caledonia, Wallis and Futuna

Today, 19 July 2021, the 5th France-Oceania Summit was held by videoconference by Emmanuel Macron. The first was organised by Jacques Chirac in 2003 and the last one took place in 2015 under the presidency of François Hollande.

This Summit was an opportunity to give new momentum to cooperation with the States and territories of the Pacific in order to overcome the major global challenges.

The French President noted France’s “re-engagement in the Pacific”, notably through maritime surveillance, biodiversity, ocean management and conservation, global warming and humanitarian crises.

Participants included the executives of the Pacific Overseas Territories, Australian and New Zealand leaders and regional organisations.
